Молодая темнокожая женщина на посту суперагента — все ждали, что это будет разрыв шаблона. Но на деле всё оказалось не так уж и революционно. 

К сожалению, Номи так и остаётся на вторых ролях, пока все лавры завоёвывает Дэниел Крейг. Это было ожидаемо: фанатам Бонда-Крейга дали возможность насладиться геройством агента перед его уходом. Но агентка 007 не просто помогает Бонду — всё выглядит так, будто на её фоне он намного лучше. Номи много кичится новым званием. Она — слишком послушный агент, в отличие от главного героя, который спасает мир, несмотря на приказы начальства и отсутствие почётного звания. Зрителю будто говорят: «Она, конечно, ничего, но мы же знаем, кто тут настоящий герой!».

Не обходится и без сексистских шуток. Когда Джеймс звонит своему боссу после встречи с Номи, он произносит: «Да, видел я ваши новые большие два нуля».

Впервые за всю франшизу у Бонда появляется семья, и ему приходится бороться не только за свою страну, но и за близких.

Трагическая предыстория Мадлен стала толчком к сюжету фильма. Но Лее Сейду вновь досталась роль девы в беде, преданной спутницы и любящей матери. Ничего плохого в этом нет — просто и в её лице революции женского персонажа не произошло.

Неизвестно, было ли так задумано сценаристами или нет, но Палома — отличная сатира на типичную «девушку Бонда». Первый кадр кажется классическим: героиня в откровенном вечернем платье ждёт агента у барной стойки. И первый же диалог с ней разбивает клише. Вместо томного голоса и остроумных шуток Палома волнительно и с энтузиазмом говорит, что это её первое задание, к которому она готовилась всего три недели. Она ведёт себя скорее непринуждённо, чем изысканно и эротично.

Когда Палома и Джеймс оказываются в тесном помещении, где по законам жанра обязательно пробежала бы искра, Палома смущается и говорит «Нет, нет, просто переоденьтесь», напрочь ломая «интимную» сцену и смущая самого Джеймса Бонда. А затем Палома показывает, что дерётся она не хуже своего напарника.
